DUBRETON OPPOSES HEALTH CANADA'S INTENTION TO RAISE THE TOLERANCE LEVELS OF GLYPHOSATE ON FOOD

Health Canada has consulted the public in the last few weeks for their opinion on raising the maximum residue limits of pesticides (glyphosate) on certain food products such as oats, barley, chickpeas and other legumes. duBreton, a leader in organic pork production, expresses its strong opposition to this possibility, which runs against the current trend of reducing its use.

"This is a levelling down that we cannot accept in 2021. We should be encouraging research and development of organic farming practices instead of lowering standards to allow major grain-producing countries to continue to use herbicides in large quantities instead of actively seeking solutions to reduce them. This is clearly a step backwards for Canada," explains Vincent Breton, president of the company.

duBreton will make its opinion known and joins its voice to the Canada Organic Trade Association which denounces this archaic intention. "A leading country such as Canada cannot afford to backtrack on gains made to protect the health of its citizens and the environment. On the contrary, we must take advantage of this opportunity to take another step forward to promote organic agriculture on our territory and at the global level.
