In advance of Canada’s National Organic Week, September 17-25, 2016, duBreton (Canada and North America’s #1 producer of Certified Humane® and organic pork) is proud to announce it has raised 58,486 crate-free pigs as a part of its commitment to raising 300,000 more crate-free pigs by 2018. In addition, duBreton is finalizing the transition of more commodity farms to organic or Certified Humane®, which will see another 36,880 pigs living crate-free within only a few weeks. DuBreton’s crate-free pig commitment is helping to meet the growing consumer demand for organic and Certified Humane® pork, and is one of the biggest humane farming initiatives ever made, representing an investment of $30 million dollars.

“Consumers want to feel good about the food they eat and are choosing products that are raised in a more natural way,” says Vincent Breton, president, duBreton. “DuBreton is proud to continue raising pigs under organic and Certified Humane® standards to ensure we can meet the increasing demand for ethically-produced pork that is raised locally in Canada.”

DuBreton is a family-run Canadian business that sources the best organic and Certified Humane® pork from independent family farms in Ontario and Quebec. Its organic pork products are from pigs that are fed a high-quality organic, GMO-free, vegetarian feed. All of the pork in duBreton’s Organic (green label) and Rustic Farm Pork (blue label) product lines are from pigs that are raised without antibiotics in a crate-free environment where they have free access to shelter, hay or straw bedded resting areas and the space and ability to engage in natural behaviours. Every aspect of raising the pigs, from the farm to the processing facility, adheres to the strictest organic and humane certifications, resulting in tender, juicy pork with outstanding flavour. In addition to Certified Humane®, duBreton’s organic products are certified by Canada Organic, Ecocert, QAI Organic and USDA Organic.

While investing in its own family farm network, duBreton is also always open to the possibility of working with independent producers seeking to embrace the organic or Certified Humane® model. Farmers interested in raising pork this way can learn more at www.dubreton.com.
